Once the home of Admiral William Sowden Sims, past President of the Naval War College, this gracious Victorian now functions as a lovely "home away from home" for visitors while in Newport. Its restored elegance allows you to relive history and a time gone-by.....yet, just minutes away, you're in the center of Newport's many activities. With our private off-street parking, you'll be free to discover fabulous restaurants, shop for antiques, and enjoy Newport's museums & waterfront. At the end of each day, you'll retire to sleep soundly in quiet relaxation.

Each room is named for a President and we pamper every guest as a member of own First Family. Wake to a big, hot breakfast served on the sun porch or in the library. All our guest rooms have either King or Queen beds - treated with hypoallergenic treatment - with private baths. Some have oversized claw foot tubs as well as showers. Air conditioning, cable TV, and wi-fi were certainly not standard when Admiral Sims lived here, but are wonderfully convenient in today's world!

Meet other guests and enjoy the peaceful, wide porches overlooking our one-acre lawn...or hide away for intimate moments - we won't let the White House press bother you.

We'll greet you in the "Diplomat's Reception Room" where you can sample port or sherry and relax with a snack from the basket. You're welcome to play a game, put a piece in the puzzle or just read the paper & let the world go by.

Whether you're traveling from abroad or across state lines, rest assured you will receive all the executive privileges afforded to our Foreign Dignitaries. So when your thoughts turn to enjoying the charm, beauty and history of legendary Newport, let your thoughts also turn to Admiral Sims' White House B&B, and allow us to pamper you in a Presidential style all our own. Stay at Admiral Sims for comfort, relaxation, and the perfect "home away from home" while in Newport.

Admiral Sims' White House is also a preferred lodging for extended stays, business, and military or government travelers. We offer weekly rental options for a fully furnished apartment. We're retired military ourselves and understand perdiem (TDY / TAD) and the need for hominess. Located at the "Top of the Hill" of Newport's famed residential Historic Hill, with lovely gardens and large shared and private spaces, we are a favorite location for reunions, weddings, meetings & more.
 

Business Travelers

Business folks love to stay at the Beech Tree Inn and Cottage. It feels like home, but has the quiet space needed to focus on business. With wi-fi throughout the house, you can always just relax in your room....or you can spread out on the dining room tables or take advantage of the Business Center.

We work with companies to develop a corporate rate package for extended stays & quickly become your lodging of choice.

 

 

 

 

Rooms and Rates

Make Admiral Sims' White House B&B your "home away from home!" Enjoy our historic, restored home offering spacious, comfortable guest rooms and private baths. With air conditioning, cable TV, wi-fi and more, you'll appreciate the modern conveniences in an elegant atmosphere. Perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood, park in free, off-street parking just minutes walk to all Newport's activities.

Rates are based on a two-night stay for double occupancy to include a big, full breakfast. Tax is not included. We reserve the right to change room rates at any time. A two-night minimum stay is required on weekends and a three-night minimum stay is required for holiday & special event weekends. Book online or call for rates 401-841-0009 or 1-877-841-0009.

Whether you stay in the East Wing or the West Wing, you'll step back in time to the serene elegance of 1883. Rates range from $99 to $325 depending on the time of year and day of the week. Call for rates (we sometimes have unannounced discounts) or book online!  Pets are accepted in a specific room with prior arrangements and a $25 fee for extra cleaning.

No matter what you prefer, the rooms are all bright with morning sun and will surround you in comfort. After an exciting day in New England, you can cuddle into your freshly made queen or king-size bed and whether it is a Four-poster, or sleigh style, you'll sleep soundly in the quiet of our residential neighborhood.

 

Meetings & Other Gatherings

The Admiral Sims' White House Bed and Breakfast is well equipped to host your small event. We provide a location - both inside and outside - for family reunions, wedding events, meetings, birthday parties, conferences, graduation parties, business off-sites, and any other get together you can imagine! With guest rooms available on site, you can also reserve a dedicated meeting space for 15-20 consisting of one room with a large table and one room with two sofas, a desk & a fireplace. Military / Government Temporary Lodging (TDY / TAD)

All military and government folks are welcome - whether you're a student at SWOS (www.swos.navy.mil) for three months or just in town attending a meeting at the Naval War College (www.nwc.navy.mil/defaultf.htm) for a few days, we can accommodate you at the per diem rate.

Some of us are retired and some are still serving - so we open our home to serve you!
