...because it is incredibly quaint, has a tremendously interesting history, and is overflowing with attractions. There are too many things to do! Here are some ideas of fun things to do from The Beech Tree Inn and Admiral Sims' White House.
Day 1:
Wake up to fresh, hot coffee, fresh fruit, and our special Marine Corps French Toast Strata. Wander to the Visitor's Center offering every brochure imaginable and orient yourself to Newport with a windshield tour of Ocean Drive. You'll be amazed at the ocean vistas, the winding roads, and the tremendous architecture including houses of worship, Colonial homes, museums and galleries. Pull into a mansion or two along Bellevue Ave and experience the wonders of the opulent 19th century (www.newportmansions.org). A nice soak in the Jacuzzi caps off the day perfectly.
Day 3:
You'll get a great start to the day with either The Beech Tree Inn's biggest breakfast in town or The White House gourmet fare. Today, you'll narrow in on Newport's history. Stroll around the cobblestone streets stopping at St. Mary's Church, the oldest catholic parish, where JFK and Jacqueline Onassis were married. Visit Touro Synagogue and Friends Meeting House which confirm Newport's founding in 1639 as settler's sought religious freedom. Poke around the waterfront on Bannister's, Bowen's and Long Wharves. Walk Thames Street and find unique shopping and antiques. You'll also discover the oldest lending library in the country, the mysterious Old Stone Mill, and remnants of the Revolutionary War. Meander back to the B&B and relax with a bottle of wine on the deck. Watch the sun set or browse through a magazine. Your fireplace will take the chill off. After resting and enjoying a private bath, catch a cab to a fancy restaurant and enjoy an evening in town.
But there's more to do... leave early enough the next morning to take advantage of the Newport Vineyard special. You'll just have to come back. We have many return visitors at our B&B's and they still haven't accomplished it all.
